Following through on the companys groundbreaking deal with Microsoft made one month ago, Novell has announced that its version of the OpenOffice.org software suite will support Microsofts Office Open XML format. The objective, both companies have indicated, is to improve interoperability between OpenOffice and Microsoft Office 2007, recently released to businesses by the software giant. As part of the arrangement, Novell will create bidirectional open-source translators for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations between OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Office, starting with the word processing translator, which is expected to be released by the end of January 2007.
